Michael Tardif, Assoc. AIA, CSI, Hon. SDA
Founder and senior analyst Michael Tardif conducts research on architectural design, design technology, building information modeling, and building industry business management. He writes frequently for leading professional and consumer publications and consults with leading companies and organizations throughout the building industry.
Michael is the co-author, with Steve L. Wintner, AIA, of Financial Management for Design Professionals: The Path to Profitability, and is currently researching and writing, with co-author Dana “Deke” K. Smith, FAIA, Building Information Modeling: A Strategic Implementation Guide for Business Leaders in Architecture, Engineers, Construction, and Real Estate Asset Management.
Michael is a contributing editor of AIArchitect with a focus on building information modeling and related design technologies. His work has also appeared in professional publications such as CE News, The Big Project (published in Dubai, UAE), OnSite, the quarterly real estate magazine of the Washington Business Journal, and in consumer publications such as ArchitectureDC, Bethesda Magazine, New Old House, Washingtonian, and Waterfront Home & Design.
Michael is the former director of the AIA Center for Technology and Practice Management. During his five-year tenure he served as a contributing editor for technology of The Architect's Handbook of Professional Practice, 13th edition, and wrote or edited over 250 AIA Best Practices articles. He is also the former Editorial Director, Best Practices, for ZweigWhite, where he edited four professional/technical books, including the Insider's Guide to SF330 Preparation, 2nd Edition, a comprehensive guide for design professionals on the federal procurement of professional design services. He recently served as consulting Information Technology Project Manager for the National Institute of Building Sciences for the agcXML Project.
Michael has fifteen years of experience as a project designer and project manager for architecture firms with a portfolio of completed projects that includes residential, commercial, and institutional buildings; health care facilities; and places of worship. He is an associate member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), and a professional member of the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI), the buildingSMART Alliance, the Sustainable Building Network of Washington, and Washington Independent Writers. In 2003, he was named an honorary lifetime member of the Society of Design Administration in recognition of his contributions to the advancement of design firm management. |
